The northern end of the Suncoast has some small rollers while the southern portions of the Trail remain flat. Adding Starkey Park Trail will add about 6.5 miles one way if you go all the way to the park‘s entrance at Starkey BLVD. Afternoon shade develops eventually as the sun angles to the west. Wind will be part of these rides on most occasions so be prepared and budget your ride accordingly. Summer rides should be accomplished early as possible during the day as it can get quite hot by midday on. A great trail to maintain fitness on a bike, jogging or walking. There are cold water stops and a few benches along the way that provide a place to rest and refuel.
Totally appreciate the Suncoast Trail for its excellent surface conditions and length. Note: Parking fees do apply at some areas. Look for the trailhead just past the parkway, south of SR 50 (on your left). Continue through Brooksville on SR 50 and proceed until you reach the Suncoast Parkway. Trailhead at SR 50 (29.6 miles from southern terminus): From I-75, take Exit 61 (new Exit 301) to US 98/SR 50. The Suncoast Trail can be accessed from within the park. Anderson Snow Road is just past the parkway on right. Take a right (heading west) on County Line Road and proceed until you pass the Suncoast Parkway. Trailhead at Anderson Snow Regional Park/Sports Complex (22.45 miles from southern terminus): From Brooksville, take US 41 south to County Line Road. The Suncoast Trail can be accessed via a trail within the park. Turn right on Shady Hills Road and proceed north until you reach Leeway Road. Head east on SR 52 (away from San Antonio) until you reach Shady Hills Road. Trailhead at Crews Lake Park (15.86 miles from southern terminus): From I-75, take Exit 59 (new Exit 285) to SR 52. Look for trailhead entrance on left about 1 mile before passing under Suncoast Parkway. From New Port Richey, head east on State Road 54. Trailhead entrance is on the right about 1 mile beyond overpass. Head east (toward New Port Richey/Land O' Lakes) on SR 54 until you pass under the Suncoast Parkway. Trailhead at SR 54 (2.45 miles from southern terminus): From I-75, take Exit 58 to SR 54. Turn left (west) and continue for about 3 miles until you pass under the Suncoast Parkway.
Trailhead at Lutz Lake Fern Road (southern terminus): From Tampa, take Dale Mabry Highway (CR 597) north to Lutz Lake Fern Road. Starkey Wilderness Preserve, with beautiful waterways and scenic views of natural areas. One of the Suncoast Trail's most impressive features is the nearby Jay B. It passes through a mix of suburban, agricultural and natural areas, along which you will find rest areas and interpretive signs that illuminate the trail's historical significance and identify the local ecology. The trail parallels the Suncoast Parkway, beginning in northern Hillsborough County, and heads north through Pasco and Hernando counties.
